Description

The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal is a military service award instituted by the government of South Vietnam in 1964 to recognize the service of military personnel from South Vietnam, the United States, and other allied countries who participated in the Vietnam War from 1961 to 1973. The medal is intended to acknowledge the valuable contributions made by these forces in defending South Vietnam against the communist North Vietnamese forces and their Viet Cong allies. To be eligible for the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, military personnel must have served in the Republic of Vietnam for a minimum of six months, participated in a minimum of 25 aerial missions over Vietnam, or have been engaged in direct combat with the enemy during the conflict. The medal can be awarded to members of the armed forces from South Vietnam, the United States, and other allied countries that provided military support during the Vietnam War. Design The medal is designed as a circular, gold-plated medallion, featuring a representation of the national emblem of South Vietnam, the "Vietnamese Dragon," on the obverse. The reverse of the medal displays a map of Vietnam with the inscription "Chi?n D?ch" (Campaign) above and "B?i Tinh" (Medal) below. The medal is suspended from a bar adorned with the inscription "1960-" to signify the duration of the conflict. Ribbon The ribbon of the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal features a central stripe of green, flanked by stripes of white and red. The green stripe represents the jungles of Vietnam, the white stripes symbolize purity and peace, and the red stripes signify the bloodshed and sacrifice during the conflict. The ribbon is also adorned with a small, silver-plated metal device, known as the "1960- Bar," which features the same inscription as the suspension bar. The Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal serves as a symbol of the dedication, heroism, and service of military personnel from South Vietnam, the United States, and other allied countries who participated in the Vietnam War. It is a testament to their commitment to defending South Vietnam and promoting freedom and democracy in the region, and the valuable contributions they made to the international community's efforts to secure peace and stability in Southeast Asia.

Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal Full Size Court Mounted

The court mounting of medals involves securing medals to a stiff backing board, along with the placement of a brooch fitting on the board. This ensures that the medals remain firmly in place and do not shift or move about while being worn.

It is mandatory for active members of the Australian Defence Force to have their medals court mounted, as it is considered the appropriate method of presenting military honours in a professional and respectful manner. By doing so, the medals are given proper recognition and are displayed in a neat and organized fashion.
