Introducing the limited edition Lieutenant Guy Haydon and Midnight Art Print, a rare find that captures the incredible story of Lieutenant Guy Haydon and his beloved black mare Midnight. This exquisite piece is a must-have for history enthusiasts and art collectors alike.
Lieutenant Guy Haydon and Midnight's journey began at the property "Bloomfield" in the Hunter Valley, NSW. They joined the 12th Light Horse Regiment in 1915 and quickly became renowned for their exceptional equestrian skills. Midnight's remarkable performance in a friendly equestrian competition against the British solidified their place in history.
Their bond was tested when Lieutenant Haydon was sent to fight at Gallipoli, leaving Midnight behind. However, their reunion in Egypt showcased the unbreakable connection between man and horse. Midnight's endurance and stamina were put to the ultimate test during the failed second battle for Gaza, where she remained under saddle for seven days.
The pinnacle of their partnership came on the 31st of October 1917, when Lieutenant Haydon and Midnight charged the Turkish stronghold of Beersheba. Tragically, Midnight was mortally wounded during the charge, but Lieutenant Haydon survived, albeit with life-altering injuries.
