Eligibility
The medal was established on July 14, 2010, and is awarded for service in Australian border protection operations since the cessation of Operation Relex II on December 17, 2006. Eligible operations include border protection operations such as Operation Resolute, Operation Sovereign Borders, and Operation Relex II.
Design
The medal features a central design of the Australian Commonwealth Coat of Arms on the obverse, surrounded by the words "Australian Operational Service Medal" and "Border Protection." The reverse of the medal displays a stylized version of a Southern Cross constellation.
